If a different provider performs the duplex scan, that provider must maintain a copy of the test results and interpretation along with copies of the ordering/referring provider's order.

Results of the duplex scan must be included in the patient's medical record as a hard copy or a soft copy convertible to a hard copy and of a quality that meets accepted medical standards.

Duplex scan of lower extremity arteries is covered when medically necessary per LCD L33667, with the ordering/referring provider documenting signs and symptoms, relevant history (including known diagnoses and/or prior imaging) supporting evaluation of lower extremity arterial disease.
