Coverage indications
CMS determines that the evidence is not adequate to conclude that FDG-PET for diagnosing, staging, restaging, or monitoring therapy for STS is reasonable and necessary for the treatment or diagnosis of the illness or injury or to improve the functioning of a malformed body member in the population specified in the request for national coverage. (§1862(a)(1)(A)) Therefore, CMS intends to maintain noncoverage of FDG PET in soft tissue sarcoma.
